The holiday season officially started Tuesday night at St. Scholastica with the celebration of Lighting a Tradition on the front steps of Tower Hall. The event got the go-ahead despite blizzard conditions.
Sponsored by the Student Alumni Association, this event ceremonially lights the holiday displays on campus.
Following Advent Vespers in Our Lady Queen of Peace chapel, students, staff, faculty and community members gathered on the front steps of Tower Hall. Luminarias lit the path to the doors, but Tuesday’s snowstorm and winds prevented the candles

from staying lit.
After a prayer from Campus Ministry, President Larry Goodwin spoke, noting that the students, staff and community at St. Scholastica are “lights” in our lives. Goodwin then led the countdown to the illumination.
When the countdown ended, a switch was triggered and the garland and wreath around the doors lit up, along with groups of evergreen tress in front of Tower Hall.
The winners of this year’s talent show, Doing it for the Money, then took center stage as they led the crowd in two Christmas songs, “Joy to the World” and “Silent Night.” The evening ended with
